Inaugural Function for PGDM (IM) Batch 2018-20
Adani Institute of Infrastructure Management welcomed its fresh batch of PGDM (Infrastructure Management) through an inaugural ceremony on 13th July 2018.
We were privileged to have Dr. I.P.Gautam, Managing Director, Ahmedabad Metro-Rail Co (MEGA Ltd) Gandhinagar as our Chief Guest for the occasion. In his address, Dr. Gautam shared insights emerging from the vast experience of leading high complexity infrastructure projects. Through examples, he demonstrated that while executing infrastructure projects is replete with challenges in India, with seamless planning and sheer commitment such projects can turn into opportunities for bringing about greater common good.
A Brief about Respected Dr.I.P.Gautam
Mr I. P. Gautam did his Post- Graduation from Pt. Dindayal Upadhyay University of Gorakhpur and LL.B. (Practicing Degree) from Lucknow University before joining Central Govt. in 1981-82. Mr Gautam had a Diploma in Management from NADT Nagpur (1985) and submitted his Doctoral Thesis on Urban Transport System to CEPT University under their Doctoral Program 2010.
Mr Gautam began his career with Indian Revenue Service as an Assistant Commissioner of Income Tax and joined Indian Administrative Service in 1986. He has served as Secretary & Principal Secretary Government of Gujarat in various departments like Power – Energy & Petrochemical, Port & Transport and Urban Development & Urban Housing Depts etc. He has also served as Director (Finance) of Sardar Sarovar Narmada Project, a Life line of Gujarat for five years and Municipal Commissioner of Rajkot and Ahmedabad City for Eight years. His major contributions have been both in improving regulatory mechanisms, delivery services as well timely implementation of Important Projects and managing growth related investments for the State. As the Commissioner of both Rajkot and Ahmedabad, Mr Gautam focused on improving civic services & city infrastructure and innovative service delivery arrangements apart from managing basic obligations of the City Government. Mr Gautam, having evolved the Ahmadabad’s City Development vision, also spearheaded the Sabarmati River Front & Bus Rapid Transit System, one of the first in the Country to launch it to scale. His major contribution includes, Management of Large Projects, Power Sector Reforms (Jotigam), conversion of thousands of auto rickshaws of Ahmedabad City into CNG, implementing PPP arrangements for City Bus and BRTS, effective Financial management of Sardar Sarovar Project & Civic bodies like RMC & AMC, innovation of Two room housing for urban poor and rehabilitation & resettlement of Projects Affected People of Sabarmati River Front, and many innovations in Civic Management, Project Financing including creation of AMC Medical Education Trust which runs 3 Medical Colleges since 2009. Mr Gautam also initiated and submitted a proposal to UNESCO through ASI for declaring Ahmedabad city as a World Heritage City in April 2010 and UNESCO had placed Ahmedabad in tentative list of World Heritage Cities in March 2011. Now finally Ahmedabad city was declared as a first World Heritage City of India on 8th July 2017. Many Nationally famous Projects like BRTS, Kankaria Lake Front and Sabarmati River Front Development were implemented & completed during his tenure as Commissioner AMC and several International & National Awards were received by the Civic Body and also by Mr Gautam during his more than five years tenure as Municipal Commissioner & Chairman & MD of Sabarmati River Front and also founder Chairman of Ahmedabad Janmarg Ltd.
Mr. Gautam was appointed as Director General of Institute of Urban Transport of GOI for five year tenure, by Govt. of India in August 2013, however he was given the responsibility of constructing Metro Rail in Ahmedabad by Government of Gujarat in Sept 2013 itself where he joined as Vice Chairman & MD of MEGA Co. On 13th Sept 2013. After sanction of Ahmedabad Metro rail Project phase 1, by the Government of India the MEGA Co was converted as a 50:50 SPV of Govt of India & Govt of Gujarat and Mr Gautam was appointed first Managing Director of the SPV on 14-01-2015 and now implementing Ahmedabad Metrorail Project Phase 1.
